Liam Friel
Web Application Developer
About me
Hey!
I’m Liam, an application developer currently working with East Ayrshire Council where I’m doing mostly internal development. Before working here I was based in Dundee for several years as a back-end developer working alongside with the illustrious team at mtc.
I originally started at mtc. as a summer intern during my penultimate year of university which was what sparked my love of web application development. I ended up graduating with a BSc. In Applied Computing from the University of Dundee and starting a full time post at mtc. afterwards.
Writing code is a passion of mine and I engage in side-projects when I get some free time, you can read about them on my blog.
My skills
I’m familiar with a whole host of web technologies, however my time at mtc. was mostly spent working with the LAMP stack which had me writing code in either PHP (typically in a hybrid Laravel-esque framework) or Javascript (I spent a lot of time working with Vue.js and in legacy applications, jQuery).
Currently I deal mostly with the WISA stack and a large variance of technologies. C#.NET, VB.NET are frequent sights, alongside PHP for a large number of applications.
I try to be as flexible as I can be and I do my best to keep up with the ever changing world of software development in each scene. I attended PHP Scotland in 2019 with mtc.
